Bernardo’s Youth Gain Insight into Construction Through Offsite Factory Visit with CCG.
In collaboration with Bernardo’s, young people were recently given a unique opportunity to experience the world of construction firsthand.
Organised by the main contractor, CCG, as part of their community benefits initiative being delivered for the City of Edinburgh Council as part of the EHD pilot 1 project, the group took part in an offsite factory visit that offered an in-depth look at modern construction processes.
The visit was designed to give participants a better understanding of offsite manufacturing, a growing aspect of construction that allows for more efficient, sustainable, and controlled building methods. The young people were guided through the factory to witness the entire production process, from design to assembly, offering insight into how buildings can be constructed offsite before being transported and assembled on location.
As part of the visit, the group also participated in an engaging practical exercise. This activity encouraged teamwork and problem-solving, as they collaborated to develop a proposal centered around the design disciplines integral to construction projects. Through this hands-on exercise, they learned about the complexities of architecture, structural engineering, and project management—gaining a broader understanding of the range of skills involved in constructing a building.
This initiative aligns with CCG’s commitment to supporting local communities and providing valuable opportunities for young people to explore career paths within the built environment. By offering insight into offsite manufacturing and the design processes behind construction, CCG aims to inspire the next generation to consider future roles within the sector.
The visit was an enriching experience for the participants, giving them a unique look behind the scenes at how the built environment industry operates.
